Accepting the award was <strong>Carmelita Tropicana<\/strong>, the alter ego of <strong>Alina Troyano<\/strong>, a performance artist and writer who burst onto New York\u2019s downtown performing arts scene as the spitfire Carmelita Tropicana.\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6765\" alt=\"16-LaLupeRouge\" src=\"https:\/\/www.prideoftheocean.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/16-LaLupeRouge.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A tireless and prolific artist and filmmaker, you may have seen her sister Ela Troyano&#8217;s <strong>PBS<\/strong> documentary, <em>La Lupe: Queen of Latin Soul<\/em>, which was nominated for a prestigious <strong>Alma Award<\/strong>. The morning session includes writing exercises by Irene Fornes to generate original material. The second part of the session participants are led through theater and improvisation exercises to shape the writing developed in the workshop into an informal short performance. Participants are asked to bring pen and a notebook to write and comfortable clothes for light stretching and visualization exercises. Open to teens and adults \u2013 no previous performance or writing experience required.
