In Cynthia Lubow’s latest film, Masculine and Pregnant: Transcending Gender<\/strong><\/em>, a diverse group of masculine-of-center identified people speak to their experiences of gender expression, gender identity, attractions, parents, partners, pregnancy, breastfeeding, conflicts, parenting and hopes for the future through the lens of carrying a baby in their bodies. The film seeks to confront many assumptions about gender that limit understanding of gender, such as the assumption that there are only two genders, that only men have facial hair, that non-binary gender implies anything about sexual preference, that gender is static, that body shape determines gender, and that male identity and pregnancy are incompatible or incomprehensible.<\/p>\n

\"carmelitat\"\"KunstWaffen\"Your Kunst Is Your Waffen<\/em> is the short film that won the coveted Teddy Bear Award<\/strong> at the Berlin International Film Festival<\/strong>. Accepting the award was Carmelita Tropicana<\/strong>, the alter ego of Alina Troyano<\/strong>, a performance artist and writer who burst onto New York\u2019s downtown performing arts scene as the spitfire Carmelita Tropicana.\u00a0\"16-LaLupeRouge\"<\/p>\n

A tireless and prolific artist and filmmaker, you may have seen her sister Ela Troyano’s PBS<\/strong> documentary, La Lupe: Queen of Latin Soul<\/em>, which was nominated for a prestigious Alma Award<\/strong>. The Troyano sisters love working together and their current projects include a collaboration with Sara Coffey<\/strong>, Founder and Director of Vermont Performance Lab<\/strong>, a performance incubator in the foothills of Vermont.<\/p>\n

Sunday, June 21, 2015 @ 10:00am:\u00a0<\/strong>Writing and Performing Autobiography Workshop at The Root Center for Social Justice in Brattleboro, Vermont,\u00a0<\/b>many contemporary artists use autobiography to write and perform their work: Lisa Kron, Spalding Gray, John Leguizamo, etc. This workshop introduces participants to writing and performing autobiography. The morning session includes writing exercises by Irene Fornes to generate original material. The second part of the session participants are led through theater and improvisation exercises to shape the writing developed in the workshop into an informal short performance. Participants are asked to bring pen and a notebook to write and comfortable clothes for light stretching and visualization exercises.
